The village of Beli Plast in Bulgaria has a very specific natural phenomena. There you can find a huge stone mushrooms. There is a dozen of those strange looking ‘mushrooms’ in Beli Plast and they are limestone boulders. The largest of them is three meters height.

Those mushrooms were created as an consequence of erosion caused by water during thousands of years in the past. Now when water has disappeared from this area, those eroded lime stones became pretty interesting natural phenomena for visitors and tourists.

Iceland is a beautiful place that is surrounded with a number of geographical wonders that are believed to be immensely distributed in the wide diversity. The indigenous land is also surrounded by a number of wide and open horizons that has all the power to just attract any visitor towards itself with a sense of gravity and independent freedom.

When visiting Iceland you just may feel an ever living quest so that you can always explore the beautiful topographical diversity the very moment you step on the soils of Iceland. The famous Namaskar pass which is located near the North of beautiful Lake Myvatn is also considered as one of the wonders of the world, and is one such place that you must surely visit when in Iceland.

Situated at a height of 410 m in the famous Mount. Namafjall, this pass has managed to derive its name based on the 19th century due to sulfur recovery from this mountain. One of the best ways to reach to the famous pass certainly is to try and take route No. 1 of the Ring road that is located between the Mynav and the Egilssta. There is also another route which is called as the Serpentine routes which you can take from the Reykjahli, that is situated at least 5 Kms away. Lake Myvatn is one place that is also looked up as most famous resort area of Iceland and can be reached just within 45 minutes from the nearest town. So, once you have managed to reach Hinauffahrt, you may immediately get a nice view of the Muckensee and the Jar-ba-sholar, which is also a famous volcanic crater and covers the Jar-bo-in lagoon right behind it.

A stretch of hot water springs called as Hverarond is certainly located just at the foot of this famous mountain and these are better known for the wide variety that they keep on changing. There are also a number of mud holes, mud pots or fumaroles that can always be seen boiling with extra amount of energy.

The famous Namaskar pass is just situated at a little distance to Krafla volcano and there are also a number of other geological spots that are located nearby to it including desert Myvatsorafi and Burfellshraun. Whenever visiting Namaskar pass you have to keep in mind to visit Heibquellengebiet, Pseudo craters of Skutusta, Dimmuborgir’s lava formations and also the historic waterfalls of Go-afoss which is just located nearby to the road.

At the foothills of this spectacular volcanic mountain is an expanse of hot springs called Hverarönd or Hverir that are known for their changing variety. You may also find a number of fumaroles, mud pools and mud pots that all seem to be boiling with relentless energy. The pass Námaskarð is strategically located at a short distance from the Krafla volcano system as well as other interesting geological spots like Búrfellshraun and the desert Mývatsöræfi. While visiting Námaskarð, you must not miss the Heißquellengebiet, lava formations of Dimmuborgir, pseudo craters of Skútustaðir and the historic waterfall Goðafoss by the road.

Photo from bishop72

However, Námaskarð earns its notoriety chiefly because of its sulphurous mud springs called solfataras and steam springs called fumaroles. Though you will scarcely find any pure water spring in this wonderful geothermal site of Iceland, the beauty of the colorful minerals defies all comparisons. The gigantic size of the mud craters is what makes you go ‘wow’ at the sight of them. You get parking, accommodation and dining facilities at Grýtubakki.

The other thing that is sure to strike you about Námaskarð is the sheer lack of vegetation. However, if you give a thought to the high temperature range, it does not appear an impossibility altogether. The constant emission of the fumes has made the ground utterly sterile and acidic, unfit to sustain any floras and faunas. You must bear in mind that the fumes can be harmful for humans as well.

Hence, better not forget to cover your nose or wear a mask while enjoying the hues of mineral deposits. You also must be careful about where you walk. Do not try to get over adventurous and cross the ropes that surround the pools. The ground beyond might crumble any moment and accidents do occur every now and then due to the erosive nature of the mud springs. There are no guards or guides to keep you off from the impending danger and so you must look after yourself.

Photo from hkvam

It needs a visit to Námaskarð and Lake Mývatn to dispel the myth of icy coldness that people tend to associate with Iceland. In fact, Mývatn ranks fourth among the largest lakes of Iceland and remains the favorite haunt of various species of birds. The efflorescence of the sulphuric gases and hydrogen sulphide lets loose a riot of colors to flood the neighboring rhyolite rocks of this region. The view of the magnificent Lake Mývatn coupled with the turbulent bubbling and overhanging fog gives you a feeling that you have arrived at some extraterrestrial land or is it the gateway to hell!

This waterfall is a beautiful display of the natural heritage of Vietnam. It is the most perfect site to indulge into for your fantasies of nature. A breath-taking scenary of falling water is inviting and comforting to those seeking an escape from their busy lives. The waterfall is located at the Cao Bang Mountain, 272 kilometers from Hanoi.

The waterfall looks like a resemblance of flowing silk, up from the top through the green forest. Several rocks covered with plants cut its path, while limtestone formations await to be flowed away by the steady stream. The river is as calm as glass, with beautiful flowers lining its banks. Tourists from all around the world come running at the inviting natural scene of the waterfall, and it is one of the greatest tourist spots of the region. There are 9 minority local tribes in Cao Bang and its surrounding. Mingling with them could give you an insight in the rich culture of vietnam and can be a learning experience too.

As you fly into South Island’s largest city and main international gateway of Christchurch, you will be swept into the cosmopolitan feel of the city. There are 19th-century grey stone buildings, tree-lined avenues and extensive leafy parks. The Cathedral Square is where the heart of all the action is. Here, you will definitely not miss The Wizard, New Zealand’s only human attraction.

Christchurch offers a vast array of shopping malls such as Riccarton Mall which is the largest on South Island; to the numerous antique shops spread throughout the city. Be sure to also check out the markets that often offer the best bargains.

For a romantic rendezvous at the break of dawn, ballooning is an experience not to be missed, especially in Christchurch’s ideal geography and climate. Take off from any park in the city and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the endless ocean, the majestic mountain peaks and the undulating plains. However, where the balloon is launched is dependent on weather conditions.

If you are scared of heights and taking to the skies is not exactly your cup of tea, then perhaps the idea of gently gliding on the Avon River might be more appealing. Sit back with your spouse in the comfort of a custom built and fully upholstered punt as the boatmen expertly; guide the punt along the charming sights of Christchurch. Sights such as the Botanic Gardens, tree-lined banks and quaint bridges will provide punters with a peaceful and romantic feel of the city.

Two hours drive from Christchurch will find you in the Canterbury region at Arthur’s Pass, heart of the Southern Alps. Take in huge gulps of fresh air; feast your eyes on the blue glacial lakes of Tekapo and Pukaki among the blooming wild flowers.

In the Black Sea Coast of Bulgaria, local and tourist pilgrims flock to the Aladzha Monastery. What makes this place of worship so special is that it is curved on a limestone which is almost 40 meters high amid a backdrop of rustic woodlands 14 kilometers from Varna.

Carbon dating reveals that the medieval rock monastery prospered between 13th and 14th Century during the Second Bulgarian State. When the Ottoman reigned over Bulgaria towards the end of the 14th century, the Aladzha deteriorated and was abandoned around 18th century.

There is evidence though that the early Christians continued to use the place of worship even under the Ottoman rule. A signet ring made of silver that was found in the Crypt.

The Aladzha have two levels distinguished according to their functions. The first level contained the church, the dining room, cells, tomb, and a small interment chapel. This level was connected to the second via a wooden staircase. The second level is a natural alcove housing a chapel at the east side of the rock formation.

Aladzha literally means “sundry-colored”, words used to describe the monastery during the Ottoman rule. The real name of the monastery remains to be a mystery.

Anyone who’s been to Civita falls in love with the place. It is a rustic town up an Italian hill where life is far from the complexities of modernity. Its population is down to 14 and the canyon where it is located is ruled by erosion which threatens to disconnect the town from the rest of the world.

Sixty miles from Rome, people can access the town by hiking from its sister town Bagnoregio. A Vespa travels back and forth to carry the goods. It used to be a donkey doing the deal with the father of the scooter driver tending the beast of burden.

A passage way through the rock was built by Etruscans 2500 years ago. You breathe in history as you enter the town passing a Roman Arch made of huge cobblestones. The Etruscans may have been great warriors but they were not too good when it comes to surveying lands.

Civita de Bagnoregio speaks for itself. Tourists are attracted by its quiet, genuine Italian life. The town invites people to come without a list of attractions or activities to boast. It is a haven for artists who want to retreat from city life and rediscover the beauty of his surroundings through the clouds, the stones, and the small town people.

You will notice that the cats are bigger than the human population in Civita. The younger generations have fled to follow cosmopolitan life. The people in Civita are the old, the rich who are buying lands for their escape, and tourists who want to enjoy the beauty of doing nothing.

At the center of the town is a church. It can be the most important spot of the place where processions starts and festivals kick off. Visit the church and see old art works, remnants of Saint Bonaventure, and dried flowers across the quiet place of worship.

Along the main street you will see a wine cellar owned by Rosanna and Antonio. They will be more than happy to serve you the best of local foods and show you around their cellar after a hearty meal.

Walk along the street and you will discover an old mill. Etruscan caves, and a local diner. The night is kept warm by the friendliness of the people and the sounds kids make while playing in the plaza.

Civita atop the hill is a great symbol of simple Italian life, but change is slowly creeping in.
