After seeing the first few pictures, I thought the house would end up looking tacky. I was pleasantly surprised to see the final product. This is amazing!

Good idea, but hardly new. Check this one for example:

http://www.rhyolitesite.com/bottle1.html

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_tUdGe9URGgE/SVEg39edJeI/AAAAAAAAOag/Ra54TPV6ydk/s800/100_0982.JPG

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_tUdGe9URGgE/SVEg21IcsjI/AAAAAAAAOaY/nrkgGlYmZG0/s800/100_0979.JPG

There's also a question of the amount of mortar necessary to fill the space between the round bottles (especially bottle necks)- my guess is that it's considerably more than for brick building.

This isn't recycling, it's downcycling or re-purposing. These bottles have been removed from the cycle of holding liquids. This is an important concept many people miss.

While this building is novel, plastic bottles weren't meant to be used as building materials and this is by no means a structurally sound. Unfortunately this would make a better art installation rather than an actual abode.

As wonderful their innovation is, I can see lots of Negative Nancy comments about safety and "I know better than you" so fees can be charged for review and drawings and architects and engineers and review boards, planning officials, committee members, grafting from crooked building inspectors and licensed "contractors" (unemployable misfits) list of accepted Union contractors so that 1/2 of them can't show up on the job site - or - if at all, so that the project is completely over-budget, late and underfunded. Shall we get into the banker's loans and other criminals that could also get in line on this endeavour?

Been there...done that. Actually, done in 1941 in Kaleva, Michigan. With glass, or course. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_J._Makinen_Bottle_House

Wow, what a fabulous innovation! And I love the way the fact that it was built from two liter bottles wasn't hidden. Then interior finishing with the flower petal appearance from the bottom of the two liter bottles was a wonderful touch. I'm speechless!

I am drinking wine as fast as I can to try to keep up with my husband's work on the walls of our new house. we've only got about a foot of walls up so far because a) we haven't drunk enough wine to get enough botles and b) we've been so drunk that we can't work most days. What do do? I feel so ecological, tho.

I think it's great that people are being conscientious of being "green" but that house is pretty damn ugly just my opinion...but it's cool anyways. I see it as more of a concept than anything else, I think if something incorporating recycled bottles were to be put into use in construction it would not be like this.
